Hello! My name is Ayelet Book. I’m a New York based costume and scenic designer plus a creator of fine arts. I’m also a Tufts University and SMFA graduate. Whether I’m designing sets, costumes, or fine art, theme and story are always at the center of my work. In every design, I showcase how the product exists in isolation and as a product of its universe. For costumes, this manifests by costuming characters with garments that show unique elements of their personality, while possibly making the material and color of their garb conform to the costumes of other characters in the production. For sets, while every set has to highlight important moments that happen inside the set, every set appropriately echos or contrasts the other sets in the production. For fine art, most of my pieces are artifacts for fictional worlds. While they all stand on their own, in context they comment on real world issues without the bias associated with the real world. Regardless of the work, I always strive to create something new and exciting that uses theme and story to recontextualize reality.
