Hello! My name is Ayelet Book. I am a New York based Scenic and Costume and Designer, plus a Fine Arts Practitioner. I am also a recent Tufts University and SMFA graduate! Whether I am designing sets, costumes, or fine art, purpose and plot are always at the center of my work. Therefore, in every design, I showcase how the subject exists in isolation and as a product of its universe. For sets, every set has to highlight the moment it frames, while simultaneously echoing or contrasting the other sets and motifs in the production. For costumes, every character's costume balances accentuating unique aspects of their personality and conforming to the other costumes to reveal the interpersonal tensions in the production. For fine art, most of my pieces are carefully constructed artifacts from fictional worlds that hold on their own, but in context of our time and place, comment on real-world issues without the bias associated with reality. Regardless of the work, I always create something new and exciting using purpose and plot to foster introspection.
