Hello! My name is Ayelet Book. I am a New York-based Scenic and Costume Designer, plus a Fine Arts Practitioner. I am also a Performance Design MA student at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and a recent Tufts University and SMFA graduate. Whether I am designing sets, costumes, or fine art, purpose and plot are always at the center of my work. Therefore, in every design, I showcase how the subject exists in isolation and as a product of its universe. For sets, every set has to highlight the moment it frames, while echoing or contrasting the other sets and motifs in the production. For costumes, every character's costume balances accentuating unique aspects of their personality and conforming to the other costumes to reveal the interpersonal tensions in the production. For fine art, my works are carefully constructed artifacts from fictional worlds that hold on their own, but in the context of our time and place, comment on real-world issues without the bias associated with reality. Regardless of the medium, I always create something new and exciting using purpose and plot to foster introspection.
