Aida

Conceptual Work

This is a site-specific version of Aida set in the British Museum. The goals of this production are to bring the past to life, but more importantly, to reflect on the problematic past of the institution. These goals inform the use of historically accurate costumes at the show’s beginning, which evolve into a hybrid of New Kingdom Egyptian and Victorian styles once in Egypt, and through a slow progression shift back to desaturated and more accurate Egyptian costumes by show’s end.

  • Aida is a musical which follows Aida, a Nubian Princess captured by Egyptian General Radamès, who is betrothed to the Egyptian Princess, Amneris. As Aida and Radamès fall in love with each other and Amneris learns the truth about their relationship and her country, all three of their beliefs and loyalties are challenged and reforged.
