Angels in America

Costume Designer & Costume Technician

This Gay Fantasia is set in a very real place and time with characters who are similarly abstract ideas who still have nuance enough for individual identity. The costume design for the show accentuates these equilibria, while acknowledging the contemporary time, place, and political landscape this production was revived for. Most importantly, the costumes communicate the currently particularly poignant theme of hope and individual action eclipsing uncertainty and bigotry by revealing how everyone is an angel at one point or another.

  • Angels in America follows a cast of overlapping characters in the wake of and throughout the Aids epidemic in 1980s NYC as their beliefs evolve and they learn what roles they are meant to play as history breaks wide open.
