The goal of this set is to be both claustrophobic and endlessly expansive. The severe distortion, the low termination of the wallpaper, and the seemingly infinite height of the walls create this duality and the feeling that the characters are either trapped in a decrepit 1950s basement or the bottom of some pit. But who really knows where the characters are and why? After all, Hamm is blind and alone. This can all be a hallucination he is having right before he meets his end….
